Planetary boundaries – the limits of resource use

Land use: The conversion of natural ecosystems into agricultural or settlement areas should be limited in order to protect biodiversity and ecosystems.

Air pollution: Atmospheric pollution, especially particulate matter and chemical substances, should be reduced to levels that do not endanger human health and the environment.

Chemical pollution: The release of synthetic chemicals that could endanger the environment and health should be minimized.
